Teaching has always been my Passion
Teaching has always been his passion and he has delivered CME lectures on diverse topics even after his retirement from active government service. While in government job, a total of 148 doctors underwent postgraduate training leading to MCPS and FCPS under the expert supervision of the professor.
Professor Mahdi has spent his life in propagation of wisdom and knowledge, especially in the fields of anaesthesiology and intensive care. He also played active role as an Editor of Journal of Anaesthesia & Critical Care, which used to be published by Aga Khan University Karachi. For some time he remained on the editorial board of Medical Channel, published from Karachi. During his career he has been an examiner for membership and fellowship examinations of College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) and a member of Faculty of Anaesthesia of CPSP (1982-2000).
He is a devoted, willing and upright teacher, both in the class room and at bedside teaching. He took teaching as a hobby and went out of the way to teach. He can be best described as a workaholic, an outstanding anaesthesiologist and an excellent teacher.
Dr. Mehdi Hassan was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award in year 2020.
During his teaching career Dr. Mehdi Hassan has published more than 40 articles.
Over 30 International Conferences attended and presented research work.
Professor Mehdi's Areas of Teaching
Professor of Anaesthesia and Intensive care at the Nishtar Medical College, Multan. From 1988 to 2004.
Associate Professor Anaesthetics at the Nishtar Medical College, Multan. From 1980 to 1988.
Dr. Mehdi has taught wide variety of courses covering skills, techniques and procedures that he mastered over the years of experience in Pakistan and abroad.
1. Local techniques, all commonly used methods of anaesthesia.
2. General Anaesthesia - almost all surgical specialties including cardiothoracic anaesthesia.
3. Use of ultrasound for regional blocks.
4. Pain work - acute, chronic and cancer pain.
5. Haemodynamic monitoring and cardiovascular support.
6. Respiratory and Renal Support.
7. Nutritional support in ITU.
8. Managing neurosurgical patient including ICP monitoring.
9. Sedation and Management of Patients in ICU.
