Professor of Anaesthesia and Intensive care
From December 1988 to May 2004 at Nishtar Medical College & Hospital, Multan, Pakistan he was promoted to the chair of Professor on 27th Dec. 1988. His main responsibilities were to organize the teaching and training programme of the department. As per University calendar, I used to teach 3rd, 4th year and final year medical students. In addition to teaching and training programmes, He was looking after intensive care unit, Obstetrics, Orthopaedics list and Neurosurgical list. One session per week he was providing services to Pain Clinic. Under his supervision, 148 doctors completed their post graduate training in Anaesthesia.

Associate Professor Anaesthetics
From June 1983 to December 1988 at Nishtar Medical College & Hospital, Multan, Pakistan. During this period he was committed to provide anaesthetic cover to General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and Neurosurgery. He was Clinical Director of Intensive Care Unit. Moreover, it was part of his duty to teach Medical students and trainees in Anaesthesia.

Assistant Professor Anaesthetics
From September 1980 to June 1983 at Nishtar Medical College & Hospital, Multan, Pakistan. Nishtar Hospital is 1600 bedded central Teaching Hospital attached with Nishtar Medical College Multan. This is the main teaching Hospital in the south Punjab province of Pakistan. This hospital is fully equipped with modern technology. Patients belonging to all the specialities of Surgery and medicine are looked after here.


Dr. Mehdi have taught wide variety of courses covering skills, techniques and procedures that he mastered over the years of experience:

Regional/Local techniques, all commonly used methods of anaesthesia. Use of ultrasoud for regional blocks.

General Anaesthesia - almost all surgical specialties including cardiothoracic anaesthesia.

Pain work - acute, chronic and cancer pain.

Haemodynamic monitoring and cardiovascular support.

-Central venous cannulation.
-Pulmonary artery flotation catheterization and using information to guide medical therapy.
-Arterial cannulation.
-Managing cardiac arrhythmias and CPR.
-External and internal pacing.

-Use of Lidco in Haemodynamic monitoring.

Respiratory Support.
-Different types of oxygen therapy and ABG analysis.
-Dilational tracheostomy.
-Fibroptic, bronchoscopy and intubation.
-Chest intubation and under-water seal drainage.
-Pleural fluid aspiration.

Renal Support.
-Dialytic therapies e.g. haemodiafilteration.

Nutritional support in ITU.

Managing neurosurgical patient including ICP monitoring.

Sedation in ICU.

Management of Patients in ICU such as:
-Poisoning including Organo-phosphorus poisoning.
-Multiple trauma.
-Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.
-Guillian Barrie syndrome.
-Eclampsia and pre-eclampsia.
-Status asthmaticus.
-Patients requiring ventilatory support.
